For decades, there had been an abysmal state of affairs relating to the lack of diversity in the selection of arbitrators and mediators in ADR proceedings. In recent years, there have been numerous initiatives put forward to remedy this situation, with tangible progress being made and renewed hope being generated that the situation will further improve in the future. Participants learned about the precise nature of this problem afflicting the ADR field, why it matters, and what steps have taken place – and are anticipated to take place – to address this issue.
